Top scorer in the 2007 Brazilian Championship and signed to replace Souza during last year's Brazilian Championship, striker Josiel wants to forget 2008 and start a new life with Flamengo. With a contract until mid-year, he hopes to establish himself as a starter, regain his top scorer status, and continue wearing the red and black jersey until the end of 2009.
"I think it would have been unfair to leave Flamengo without having contributed to the team's achievements. When I arrived, I trained and played. Re-adapting to Brazilian football was very difficult for me, but now it's a different situation. Everyone is starting from scratch, and I'll have the chance to gel better and then be able to perform as expected," the striker analyzed.
Josiel highlighted the importance of participating in the pre-season, remembering that it was like that when he defended Paraná in 2007.
"In Paraná, I started training with the whole group and managed to perform well and become the top scorer. I want to repeat that good form because I know the responsibility of wearing a jersey like Flamengo's. My specialty is scoring goals; I'm not one to put on a show. I try to be simple and objective, and I'll do everything I can to be useful to the team."
Certain that he will experience a new phase with the red and black shirt, Josiel already imagines himself renewing the contract that ends in June.
"I want to stay here longer. I arrived expecting to score goals that would help the team in the Brazilian Championship, and it didn't work out as expected. Now it's a new life, and I'm going to find my place. Being the top scorer in the Brazilian Championship doesn't guarantee me a starting spot; I need to constantly work hard if I want to play."
