Flamengo's Brazilian Championship debut against Cruzeiro will be a special one for defender Juan this Saturday. The number 4 is retiring from the field and will play his final match against the nation at 21 p.m. at the Maracanã stadium.
On the eve of the match, Juan gave a press conference at Ninho do Urubu and recalled the special moments he had in his career.
"Everything I experienced was special. In one way or another, it helped me grow, as a player and as a person. Even during the most difficult periods, during my first stint, it helped me develop. Now, with more structure and more financial power, the pressure and expectations are even greater. I lived intensely throughout my career."
The defender also commented on the emotion of stepping onto the field for the last time as a professional athlete.
"The idea, mainly, is to make the most of this special night. We haven't decided yet what position I'll play in. It's an important game for Flamengo, my last encounter with the fans, and it has everything to be a special night."
Juan highlighted his motivation and willpower to end his career playing and recalled the affection of his friends for being able to be on the field this Saturday night.
"The biggest motivation is to finish my career on the field. From the moment I got injured, I had this thought. All my teammates here at Flamengo, my family and friends told me, they urged me to do this."
Finally, the number 4 guaranteed that the first weeks of retirement will be for rest, but that he will soon begin an internship at Mais Querido.
"The tendency is for us to have a month off, to finally relax a bit. Starting in June, I'll be interning at the club to see what's next. The start now is to rest. Then I'll return to the club, understand the mechanism, improve ourselves away from home, and, in the future, decide how I can help."
