The joy at this afternoon's training session in Gávea wasn't just due to the impressive 2-1 victory over Grêmio last night at the Maracanã. Left-back Juan, a standout performer for Flamengo in this Brazilian Championship, has been called up to the Brazilian national team for the first time. Coach Dunga called up the player for the 2010 World Cup qualifiers against Chile and Bolivia.

"It's a very important moment. Getting this first call-up with Flamengo is a source of great satisfaction. I'm grateful to my Flamengo teammates, because without them, I wouldn't have been called up. This call-up is a consequence of the work I've been doing here at the Club."

For Juan, the call-up came at a very special moment in his career. He feels ready to represent his country.

"I was very happy when I found out. I'm enjoying the moment. A movie played out in my head, reflecting on everything I had to work for to get this opportunity. I think the call-up came at a great time. I'm in a great phase with Flamengo. It's the beginning of a dream, and I'll keep working to be remembered again."
