Juan asks the team to play smart
Praised by Rogério Lourenço, the full-back wants the team to try to surprise Corinthians at Pacaembu
By From the team at Flamengo's official website - inFlamengo is just days away from deciding its future in the Copa Libertadores. A draw in São Paulo next Wednesday against Corinthians will see the team advance to the quarterfinals of the competition. Therefore, it's normal for fans to be anxious. But on the field, the players reject this feeling and preach calm and intelligence to achieve a positive result.
Left-back Juan, for example, believes the team can't go into the game thinking about the advantage they gained in Rio de Janeiro. According to him, the team must play offensively; after all, scoring a goal will make things even more difficult for the opponent.
"We can't relax and just think about defending. We have to maintain as much possession as possible in their half, and if we have chances, score goals. If we score, our advantage increases, and we know that," he said.
Despite highlighting the importance of not playing defensively, Juan emphasizes that the team needs to be calm and intelligent before anything else.
"Of course, we need to play intelligently and know how to control the match. It all depends on the circumstances of the game, but we know we'll be under a lot of pressure and we have to be prepared for anything," he added.
Juan, like Leonardo Moura, received high praise from coach Rogério Lourenço. Lourenço assured that he will continue to utilize wing plays extensively due to the quality of both players.
\"We can't compromise on the quality of our full-backs. Leonardo Moura and Juan are two very high-quality players; they're weapons that people sometimes say we use too much, but we have to use them. Of course, with balance, because like all other sectors, we have to be intelligent," he observed.
