Julio Cesar thanks the fans for their affection and comments on his last game as a professional.
The goalkeeper was one of the standout players in Flamengo's victory over América-MG.

His last day as a professional, his last game, and also his last interview. In Flamengo's 2-0 victory over América-MG, the number 12 had a stellar performance, received a standing ovation from the fans present at the Maracanã, and in the post-match press conference spoke about his feelings about hanging up his gloves.
"It was great, I was already expecting this reaction from the fans. I really can't even begin to describe the affection that Flamengo fans have for Julio Cesar. It's indescribable. I can only thank everyone who was present that day. I always like to put Flamengo above everything and everyone. The idea for today's game was to get back to winning ways, which creates a light and favorable atmosphere for working. It coincided with a farewell match, I had an important role, and that's why, in the heat of the moment, the fans chanted: 'Stay, Julio Cesar'."
The goalkeeper made a point of thanking everyone who helped him throughout his career and stated that it still hasn't sunk in yet.
"It hasn't sunk in yet. Maybe in a day or two, when I look at the sky and say, 'So, what am I going to do now?' it will. It's still very recent. I want to see my family, kiss my mother who was my inspiration and the pioneer for all of this to happen in my career. Not only her, but also my father, relatives, and everyone who has done good things for me."
Even though it was his farewell game, Julio Cesar made a point of making it clear how important it was for Flamengo to achieve their first victory in the Brasileirão.
"Regardless of whether it was a farewell or not, we had to approach it with the utmost seriousness. I spoke with my teammates before the match, telling them it would be normal and important. Flamengo needed to get back on the winning track. I told Réver I didn't want to be captain. Rodinei said he would hug me if he scored, and I said, 'We're the ones who will hug you.' He's a great player and has enormous talent. The most important thing was the victory. This match was a huge risk for everyone. If Flamengo had lost, they would have said it was irresponsible of the board, but everything went as we imagined, and thank God Flamengo came away with the victory."

Feelings after the farewell game
"Today was a mix of emotions, without a doubt. To say I didn't think about the whole story would be hypocritical of me. To end on a stage like the Maracanã, where it all began for me, is a source of pride. I will always be grateful to Flamengo for this opportunity. I hope I have left a legacy."

"I had the opportunity to be with my idol in Rio de Janeiro in the last few days, and he told me that I would die now and then later on. Feeling sad? Yes. I won't be doing what I love anymore, feeling that locker room atmosphere. I'm very playful. I'm sad, but at the same time happy. The group is sensational."

"Denir is a guy who needs no introduction. A father figure in football to me. He's known me since I was 16 and has always been a stickler for my rules. He's always pushed me hard, and he's pushing me now to go to the party."
