In the late 90s, a fast, confident, and promising goalkeeper emerged from Flamengo's youth ranks. Little by little, he earned his place in the starting lineup and the affection of the Flamengo nation. After a successful career in European football and with the Brazilian national team, this Thursday Julio Cesar turns 36 as one of the best goalkeepers in the world over the last decade.

The goalkeeper arrived at Flamengo at just 11 years old. At 17, he was promoted to the first team and gradually gained a place in the squad by the end of 2000. In 2001, he was one of the key players on the field in the historic 3-1 victory over Vasco da Gama that gave the "Mais Querido" the Rio de Janeiro title. He would remain with Flamengo until 2004, winning a World Cup, a Champions' Cup, four Rio de Janeiro Championships, and a Mercosur Cup. Over these years, he made 284 appearances, making him the third-most capped goalkeeper for the red-and-black team, behind only Cantarele and Zé Carlos.

Julio played for Internazionale-ITA, where he impressed the world and earned call-ups to the Brazilian national team. After stints in England and Canada, he now plays goal for Benfica-POR.

With Amarelinha, Julio was present in three World Cups (2006, 2010 and 2014) and won one Copa América (2004) and two Confederations Cups (2009 and 2013).
