Goalkeeper Julio Cesar is back at Flamengo. After 12 years and a highly successful career in Europe, the player returns to the club he joined at age 12 in 1991. He played his first professional game in 1997, against Botafogo, in the Taça Juiz de Fora. It was his first game, and his first title, in the friendly tournament. After his debut, Julio played briefly in 97 and 98, becoming a permanent starter in 2000, only to leave for Europe.

During his time at Flamengo, Julio Cesar won numerous titles. He was a three-time state champion (2000, 2001, and 2004), won two Champions' Cups (1997 and 2001), and won the 1999 Mercosul Cup. A fan favorite, he was always considered one of the best goalkeepers to ever wear the Sacred Mantle. He played 284 matches for the Red-Blacks. His last game was a 6-2 victory over Cruzeiro in the 2004 Brazilian Championship.

In Europe, Julio shone for Inter Milan. He won everything he played for the Italian club: five Serie A titles, three Italian Cups, four Italian Super Cups, the European Cup, and the 2010 Club World Cup. In 2009, he finished 21st in the World Player of the Year award.
After Italy, Julio spent time in England, Canada and Portugal, where he was a three-time Portuguese champion, as well as winning two League Cups.
Brazil National Team
Julio Cesar was first called up to the Brazilian national team in 2002. In 2003, he was called up to his first competition, the Confederations Cup, but his first match was only in 2004, against Chile, in the Copa América. He played in the 2006 and 2010 World Cups, starting in the latter. He won the 2004 Copa América and two Confederations Cups (2009 and 2013).
