On Wednesday night, the 39-year-old goalkeeper will begin his farewell by donning the Sacred Mantle for the 285th time, making him the third most capped goalkeeper for Flamengo, behind only Zé Carlos (352) and Cantarelli (557). After the last training session at Ninho do Urubu, the left-back commented on the joy of playing alongside Julio Cesar, an idol for many younger players.
"It's rewarding to play alongside great players. It's what I've always dreamed of. Juan, Diego, and now Julio Cesar. He's a World Cup goalkeeper, and now I see him training every day with a smile on his face," commented the full-back. "I think happiness is what you can see most in him. He's a very playful guy, from whom we've learned a lot. I hope he has a very happy end to his career with us," added Renê, who also commented on Wednesday's opponent.
"Boavista is a very high-quality team, with players who have played for several major clubs. It will be a difficult game. We saw in the first half, in Cariacica, that they gave us a lot of trouble. But in the second half, we managed to play our game better, and we need to work on that," he added.
