Flamengo's youth team gave Cabofriense no chance, thrashing them 5-1 on Saturday in Gávea. With the victory, the red-and-black team reached 21 points and maintained second place in the Taça Guanabara, one point behind leaders Tigres, who defeated Botafogo 2-1. In the next round, Flamengo faces Duque de Caxias on Wednesday at 19:20 pm in Volta Redonda.

With goals from Rafael Galhardo, Raphael Cavalcanti (2), Bruno Paulo, and an own goal, Flamengo maintained its impressive run in the first half of the Campeonato Carioca. Flamengo has the best attack in the competition, with 29 goals scored. Bruno Paulo is the top scorer in the Campeonato Carioca with eight goals.

It's worth remembering that the category championship is played on a round-robin basis, with all teams playing each other. The champions of each round face off in two matches to determine the 2009 Rio de Janeiro champion.
