Juniors win and now dry Botafogo
The kids do their part, beat Resende and hope for their rival's defeat to take the lead
By From the team at Flamengo's official website - inFlamengo's youth team took an important step towards retaking the lead in the Under-20 State Championship. On Saturday afternoon (20.03), the red-blacks suffered, but beat Resende away from home by 1-0. The goal scored by defender Marlon guaranteed the team from Gávea three more points in the table and put all the pressure on Botafogo, who on Sunday (21.03), plays a classic against Fluminense.
\The victory, however, didn't come easily. Playing on a small field against a physically strong team, Flamengo had to overcome its own challenges to get the result it needed. After a first half without many opportunities, the red-and-blacks came out motivated for the second half. In the 20th minute, after a corner kick, Diego Maurício passed to Jorbison, who crossed to Marlon. The defender calmly controlled the ball from the penalty spot and slotted it into the goalkeeper's left corner.
\"It was a difficult game, as it always is against Resende away from home, but the team performed well and got the victory, which was expected. Now we just have to wait for the result of the derby to see if we can get back to the top," said coach Armênio Moura.
\After losing first place in the table in the last round, losing 3-0 to Madureira, Flamengo could regain the lead this weekend. To do so, they just need to hope that the black and whites, who have the same number of points as the red and black team, are defeated by Fluminense.
