Flamengo's captaincy is no longer vacant. Right-back Leonardo Moura, the longest-serving player, was unanimously approved by the group and will wear the armband in the match against Botafogo this Wednesday (July 14.07) at Maracanã. The defender has already served as captain for the red-and-black team a few times, but always as a substitute. Now, he has been appointed full captain.

Coach Rogério Lourenço praised the player and explained that the number 2 shirt is loved by the squad and that his name was readily accepted by the athletes.

"Several people could fill this role, as they have that leadership profile. But Leo Moura has been in very good form for a long time, has played a large number of games, is well-liked within the group, and was unanimously chosen," explained Rogério.

The red-black commander also expressed confidence that Leo will be much more than "a coin-flipping captain."

"This doesn't increase his responsibility at all and I hope he doesn't become captain just by coin toss, but that he can lift trophies wearing the Flamengo shirt," he added.

In his five years at Flamengo, Leo has played 279 games, scoring 37 goals and providing 51 assists, in addition to winning three Rio de Janeiro titles, a Copa do Brasil and the 2009 Brasileirão.
