During the off-season, there was much talk about Léo Moura's possible departure from Flamengo. However, neither the club nor the player ever confirmed this. Flamengo even issued an official statement confirming that they were counting on the player, one of the icons of the current squad, for the 2011 season.
The first day of work arrived, Léo Moura trained and took the opportunity to emphasize his desire to continue his winning trajectory at Flamengo. Furthermore, he made a point of reaffirming his love for the sacred jersey, a passion that dates back to his childhood.
"I'm here, thank God. Very happy to see my friends again. Those who thought they would see me gone, saw me here again. I've always made it clear that my desire was to stay at the club, to end my career here. My agent and I did receive an offer, yes. I'm happy with the interest. It's proof that they like my football. But the player always has the final say. That's really true. And my wishes weigh heavily. I identify strongly with Flamengo, I'm a fan and I'm already going into my sixth year with this shirt," said Léo Moura.
And the right-back really looks set to start the season at full speed. At least in the pursuit of titles, a routine for him in recent years at Flamengo.
"It's very important for us to start the year with a title. We let the State Championship slip away last year, but we'll go for it again this year. We have to be champions in the first half of the year to have more peace of mind. In 2010, we had a titleless year. Something that hadn't happened here in a long time. And that can't happen at Flamengo. We have to win titles all the time."
But when he looks to the other side of the field, Léo Moura will no longer have left-back Juan by his side, who left Flamengo at the end of 2010. However, the friendship was remembered by the Flamengo player on his very first day of work.
"I'm really rooting for Juan in his new life. We made a great duo, a good friendship, but it was the path he chose. It's up to me to root for him. I'll also be rooting hard for Egídio, who has returned to the club. I hope he seizes this opportunity," he said, before also mentioning his former protégé in that position.
"I'm very happy with Galhardo's current form. He's been excelling here at Flamengo, and he fully deserves to be representing the Brazilian national team. I'm really rooting for his success. When he returns, he'll greatly strengthen our squad and definitely compete for a starting position. It's up to the coach to choose who's playing best."
