Libertadores: Flamengo can play outside Santiago
Officials at Universidad de Chile, their opponent in the third round, are speculating about the possibility of taking the game to Viña Del Mar.

Flamengo's match against Universidad de Chile, the third in the Copa Libertadores, has a date, but no location yet. With the reopening of the country's largest sports venue, the National Stadium, currently undergoing renovations, postponed, the Chilean club's directors are already speculating about the possibility of moving the match against the current Brazilian champion, scheduled for March 17, to another city. This information comes from two major Chilean newspapers, El Mercurio and La Tercera.
Universidad de Chile wants to rent the 40.000-seat Monumental Stadium. However, the stadium's owner, Colo-Colo, has already announced that it has no intention of renting the space to its biggest rival.
Given the potential lack of other stadiums with sufficient capacity, the Chilean club is already considering moving the match against Flamengo to Viña del Mar, a resort town just over 100 km from the capital, Santiago. The stadium would be Sausalito, the venue for the 1962 World Cup, where "La U" made its debut against Caracas FC.
To do so, the club requires Flamengo's authorization. The competition regulations stipulate that any team may only move a match to a venue more than 50 km away from its host city with the approval of its opponent and if the decision is communicated to the South American Football Confederation 10 days in advance.
Universidad de Chile, however, has not yet made any decision in this regard. The club's directors will continue to pursue the possibility of convincing Colo Colo to lease the Monumental.
Flamengo could travel to Chile twice in this group stage if the other Universidad, Católica, eliminates Colón in this Libertadores qualifying round. In the first game between the teams, last Tuesday in Santa Fe, the Argentines prevailed 3-2. Chile's Católica needs a simple 1-0 or 2-1 victory to secure a spot in Group 8.
