Marcelo Lomba's first game as a Flamengo starter this year was in the team's Libertadores debut, against Universidad Católica at the Maracanã. It was quite a trial by fire. And he came through with ease, keeping a clean sheet and the team winning. He then earned his place in the Brasileirão's return after the World Cup, and immediately played in a derby against Botafogo. He also came through with ease, keeping a clean sheet, and the team winning. Since then, he has steadily gained ground and recognition from the Flamengo fans.

Humble, Marcelo Lomba says he doesn't deserve the praise for being the goalkeeper with the fewest goals conceded in the last seven rounds of the Brasileirão alone. He thanks his family, coaching staff, and teammates for all the support he received in taking on the role.

"I have enormous support from my family. My parents, grandparents, and siblings are wonderful. They help me a lot. Before I started, I had a lot of preparation. Everyone talked to me, from the coaching staff to the players, and they showed a lot of confidence in me," said the goalkeeper, who also recognized the importance of the fans' affection.

"I thank God for this moment and the fans for their affection. This moment is really cool and that is very important; it has helped me a lot," he said.

Regarding the shirt number, Lomba still prefers not to leave aside the shirt 29, which he has been using due to the fixed numbering of the red-black uniforms, but he soon hopes to use the number 1.

"I want Flamengo's number 1 shirt, but I believe it will come at the right time," he concluded.
