Luxa praises his new additions for Sunday's game
Coach shows confidence in the potential of Fernando, Paulo Victor and Negueba to take on Santos

Flamengo takes the field on Sunday (December 05.12) against Santos, for a match that will serve not only as a farewell to 2010 but also as a major test for the players that Vanderlei Luxemburgo will field. There should be plenty of new players. Jean, Fierro, Fernando, Negueba, Paulo Victor... And they all have the confidence of the Flamengo manager not only for this game but also for the next season.
One of the club's top talents from the youth ranks, 18-year-old Guilherme Negueba, is seen by Luxemburgo as a player with great potential to develop in the coming years. Praising the player's characteristics, he warns: the number 36's place is in attack, close to goal.
"I think Negueba should be a striker. I spoke with the youth team about putting him as a striker. I don't see him as a midfielder. He has dribbling and speed, and he needs to get close to the box. How are you going to keep him away from the goal? He needs to be like Robinho, Neymar, or Edílson. He's skillful, but he's not technically gifted. He's insinuating. I'm going to start playing him as a striker to see how he'll develop there," said Luxa.
With his "professional" style, besides helping Negueba find the best path to a successful career, Luxa is also confident he can help Fernando establish himself in the Flamengo team. He believes the player could become a very useful defensive midfielder in the 2011 season.
"He didn't play much. I think Fernando has the potential to be a defensive midfielder, playing from behind, with good technique, excellent physical condition, and learning. He has potential. Seeing potential in him, I want him to stay here. This year (2011), he'll position himself, adjust, we'll give him space. He's slow up forward. From behind, with the technique he has, he could be interesting, like other players I've played, like moving Vampeta back, moving Mazinho into midfield. It will depend on him. I've already renewed. Within the football market, given his age, the value is within our reach," he concluded.
With Luxemburgo's changes, Flamengo should enter the field with Paulo Victor, Leo Moura, Welinton (Jean), David and Juan; Fernando, Maldonado, Fierro and Renato; Negueba (Val Baiano) and Diego Maurício.
