In many Brazilian clubs, the news has already shifted to 2011. Squad restructuring, challenging competitions, and expectations for a successful season are the main topics of discussion for various teams across the country. Not at Flamengo. Coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo believes that now is not the right time to talk about next year.
The Flamengo coach says the players are focused on the final stretch of the Brazilian Championship and explains that next season depends on how the current one ends.
"The players know that the focus is on 2010. The year isn't over yet. We'll only talk about 2011 when this championship is over, especially since 2011 depends a lot on this season as well," he said.
The plan for 2011 is for Flamengo to compete in four competitions: the State Championship, the Copa do Brasil, the Brasileirão (Brazilian Championship), and the Copa Sudamericana. The first three are already guaranteed, and to secure their place in the international tournament, the team needs to continue scoring well in the Brasileirão.
"Our goal is the Copa Sudamericana. The last round was great for us, but we'll keep fighting to do our part without looking at the bottom of the table," he concluded.
