Luxembourg explains choice of three strikers.
The coach wants to "push the opponent" in next Wednesday's match against Ceará.

Moving forward, breaking quickly and pressing the opponent in their own half. That's how coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo wants to see Flamengo on the field next Wednesday (November 03.11rd), against Ceará, at Castelão. And that's why the coach is expected to field the team with three forwards (Deivid, Diego Maurício and Diogo), repeating the lineup that started against Corinthians in the last round.
Luxa's inspiration comes from the history of Clube de Regatas do Flamengo. The 1981 Flamengo team, champions of the Copa Libertadores and the Intercontinental Cup, was cited by the coach as an example of how his team should play.
"I prefer to play with three forwards who learn to defend than with three midfielders who don't know how to attack. The greatest Flamengo team of all time won the championship and nobody defended. Flamengo's greatest defense was possession of the ball. That's the club's characteristic. I have to play forward all the time, otherwise I get booed by the fans," said the coach, explaining that he will only change the positioning of the forwards compared to the match against the São Paulo team.
"I'm going to create this situation and just slightly change Deivid's positioning with Diogo's. I'm going to rotate them, as they are fast players who can position themselves well and adapt well to this system. With them, we have a good chance of pushing the opponent back," he observed.
Luxa also mentioned Corinthians, champions of the Copa do Brasil and the Campeonato Paulista, and major European teams, such as Barcelona, which have been achieving great results playing with the 4-3-3 formation.
"If I have to play with three defensive midfielders, I'll do it out of necessity. But Corinthians won the Copa do Brasil and the Paulista championship with three forwards: Dentinho, Jorge Henrique, and Ronaldo. That's the reality. What happened in Brazil was the opposite process, especially since in Europe they already play with three forwards," he concluded.
