In his first press conference of the year, Vanderlei Luxemburgo faced the journalists with great humor. Wishing everyone a happy new year, the Flamengo coach anticipated what was to come: many questions about signings. However, seasoned in the world of football, the Flamengo manager preferred silence, the best weapon in the current transfer market.
When asked what other reinforcements the fans could expect at the start of the season, Luxa didn't utter a single word, but emphasized Flamengo's commitment to strengthening the team.
"Flamengo hasn't stopped signing players. There are still things in progress. Obviously, I wanted all the players here on the very first day of training, but that's not how the market works. It's a normal process that everyone goes through. Some things can still happen, yes. That's all I can say. Nowadays, you can't talk about names. When it comes out in the press that Flamengo wants someone, the price goes up," he explained, demonstrating the stance he's adopted since his arrival.
"Negotiation is an internal matter for me. I always participate, along with the board, in all signings. However, once it's resolved, I'll tell everyone."
Regarding the players signed so far, Luxemburgo was full of praise. Furthermore, he emphasized that Flamengo's coaching staff thoroughly examined all the new signings.
"I hope that the players who have already arrived and are in our squad perform as well as they did at their previous clubs. I hope they have a lot of success, of course. Felipe has already shown that he is a great goalkeeper and we want him to repeat his great performances from before. As for Vander, he is a very talented young man, whom we have been observing," he said, reserving space only for the Argentinian midfielder Dario Botinelli.
"Dario is another case like Vander's. We've been observing him for about two months. He's a player with a characteristic that's lacking in Brazilian football. He's the kind of midfielder who plays behind the strikers, organizing the game. We have high hopes for him. But no player is guaranteed to succeed. The important thing is to explain that we did, in fact, study the possibility of signing him."
