Made in Ninho: Matheus Sávio and Paquetá celebrate victory in the classic
Last-minute starter, number 22 spoke about the amazing goal that opened the scoring
By Nathan Mello - inIt was Flamengo's youth team night at the Maracanã. With goals from Matheus Sávio and Paquetá, the beloved team beat Botafogo 2-0. Returning from a loan spell in Portuguese football, Sávio started at the last minute after Marlos Moreno was dropped from the squad. At the end of the match, the number 22 spoke about his return to Flamengo. “I wanted to come back to Flamengo, and it's been very important. Today I was able to help the team in a decisive match like this, a derby. We were coming off a loss against São Paulo, where we played well, and today we managed to win. Now it's about maintaining the work and continuing to do what we showed today to maintain the lead.”

In less than 10 minutes, Flamengo was already winning 2-0, and it was Matheus Sávio who scored the goal that opened the way for the Flamengo youth team. “When I started dribbling, I had my head down, but when I looked up I saw I was close to the goal and decided to take a chance. Coach Barbieri gives me a lot of confidence. Especially because I've been dedicating myself a lot in training. And today I had the opportunity and I had to be ready at the moment and I was able to respond accordingly.” With this explosive start to the game, Flamengo focused on controlling the match, as Lucas Paquetá highlighted. “We were fortunate at the beginning of the game to score the two goals, it fit well within our game plan, which is to control the match. We have to believe in the work done every day, and I'm sure that when we go onto the field the result will come and we will continue to grow.” Paquetá, who has been playing alongside the number 22 since their youth days, saw his teammate provide the assist for his first goal in a derby. “The derby is very special, and I am very happy to have scored my first goal in a derby and thank God we came out victorious.” In the next round, Mais Querido will go to Vila Belmiro to face Santos, Wednesday (25), at 21:45 pm
