There's only one player who's been called up for every Flamengo game: the 12th. You, the fan, the Flamengo supporter. The selection is being made by the players themselves. It's time for the biggest fan base in the world to make the difference, as they always have. This Sunday (September 05.09th), the team bids farewell to the Maracanã, which will be closed for renovations in preparation for the 2014 World Cup, so there's nothing better than a "see you soon" in grand style and with a full house.
The players expect a massive turnout from the Flamengo fans at the Maracanã and also throughout the Brazilian Championship, regardless of where the matches are played. Midfielder Renato, one of the players with the strongest connection to the fans in the current squad, asks that the fans trust the team and do their part, playing alongside them in the stands, so that the team gains even more motivation for a winning streak.
"The support of the fans is always important. They have always been by our side, even in difficult times, and now it will be no different. I am sure that they will support us and will be there by our side not only at the Maracanã, against Santos, but in all stadiums in Brazil," he said.
Wearing the Flamengo jersey since 2005, the club he has supported since childhood, Leo Moura, the Flamengo captain, is yet another who reinforces the request to the fans.
"We always ask for this support from the fans. They know they are fundamental and that we only stand to gain with them by our side. And we know that we need to reciprocate on the field all the support we receive, and we are giving our all to do so," he added.
Flamengo and Santos face off in the farewell match at Maracanã, which is only expected to reopen at the end of 2012 or the beginning of 2013, this Sunday (September 05.09th), at 16 pm.
