More than ever, it's time to show your worth
The team believes that players need to give their all at every opportunity at Fla
By From the team at Flamengo's official website - inFlamengo's squad for the second half of the 2010 season is composed of many young players, but also experienced players who can be considered the foundations of the red-and-black team. One of them is Petkovic. At 38, accustomed to the pressure of the fans and the spotlight that inevitably shines on any Flamengo player, he believes the team has the quality to do well in the Brasileirão.
The athlete sees this blend of experience and youth as the difference in the squad, and asserts that Rogério Lourenço, the Flamengo coach, really needs to experiment with different formations and utilize as many players as possible. After all, that's the only way to determine who can truly help Flamengo.
"We have to make changes. There are many options, sometimes forced changes or changes made by choice. The group isn't complete yet, and changes will happen. It's good because everyone will have a chance to play and improve their chemistry. Everyone knows each other on the field," said the player, who lamented the departures of Adriano and Vagner Love, but highlighted the talent of those currently at Gávea.
"We lost them, but we didn't lose them. We gave Adriano the chance to return to Europe and Love the chance to increase his value. It's a shame these players didn't belong at the club, so we couldn't keep them. It's difficult to find another player at the same level, at the same level. But we're here to overcome these obstacles," he concluded.
In his five years at Flamengo, Petkovic has already won four important titles: the State Championships in 2001 and 2001, the Champions Cup in 2001, and the Brazilian Championship in 2009.
