All teams lament points lost along the way and focus on recovering them in the last rounds. Flamengo and Atlético Mineiro, two teams that entered the competition expected to fight for the top of the table, will face each other in a decisive match on Saturday (November 13.11th) to ward off the danger of relegation.
This is further proof that the Brasileirão is unpredictable and has no favorites before the ball starts rolling. That's how the Flamengo players think, like goalkeeper Marcelo Lomba. With teams fighting against relegation as well as teams from the top of the table as opponents in this final stretch, the Flamengo players foresee an exciting run of matches.
"There are no easy games in this championship. Our team hasn't had the best luck in many matches, but we either play against those fighting for the title or those fighting to avoid relegation. There's no easy game. We have to go in super focused, analyze the team, be determined and put that into practice," said Lomba.
Flamengo currently has 40 points, sitting in 13th place, just four points ahead of Guarani, who are in 17th place and would be the first team relegated if the competition ended today. Guarani has 36 points, the same number as Atlético-MG, their opponent this weekend. But the goalkeeper doesn't want to do any math.
"I don't usually base my decisions on math. The next two games are extremely important (against Atlético-MG, away, and Guarani, in Rio), as they are direct rivals who are below us in the standings. With two wins, or one win and a draw, we have a chance to get out of this situation," he concluded.
