The youth team was crowned Rio de Janeiro champion after defeating Vasco da Gama 3-1. The match, which had been stopped after two minutes following a disturbance with the fans, took place last Wednesday (23/7) at the Grajaú Country gymnasium. And, once again, the red-and-black team showed superiority by defeating its arch-rival and closing the Championship with the best record (one loss and two draws, in 14 games).\ \ Flamengo entered the court with the advantage of the draw. Vasco, who needed to win the match to take it to overtime, tried, on several occasions, to threaten the red-and-black goal, but were stopped by good saves from Flamengo goalkeeper Dan Plachta and the post.\

Flamengo opened the scoring with André Lima in the first half, but Vasco equalized shortly after with a free kick. In the second half, Flamengo only increased its lead in the final seven minutes, when André Lima scored both goals that sealed the victory for the red-and-blacks.

With the title, Flamengo secures a spot in the 2009 Brazil Cup, a national championship in the category, in addition to having the championship's top scorer, Wallace Lopes.
