Maldo promises the same spirit and tranquility as always.

The year 2010 didn't start well for Maldonado. A serious knee injury meant he not only missed a good portion of Flamengo's games but also wasn't called up by Marcelo Bielsa to represent the Chilean national team at the World Cup in South Africa. But he maintained his usual calm and fighting spirit, recovered, and ends the season with high morale at Gávea.
Under the command of Vanderlei Luxemburgo, who knows him well from having worked with him at both Santos and Cruzeiro, the player returned to the starting lineup, became a fundamental piece in the tactical scheme, and one of the key players for the team that should be assembled for the 2011 season.
"I'm happy to finish the year well, after going through a difficult time with an injury. I'm back in the national team and that makes me really want to work, also thinking about 2011 and helping Flamengo next season," he said.

"We know that playing there isn't easy, but we're going in very motivated, looking for this victory. The result is important for us because we really want to compete in the Copa Sudamericana next year," he added.
The Chilean arrived at Flamengo in mid-2009. At 30 years old, he has already played 40 games for Fla, scoring one goal and winning one title, precisely the Brazilian Championship last year.
