Maldonado thanks Flamengo fans for their support
Happy with his two-year contract renewal, the Chilean hopes to repay the affection he always received at Gávea on the field.

Finally, Maldonado has renewed his contract with Flamengo. The Chilean midfielder, who joined the club midway through last year and was a key player in the club's run to the sixth title, extended his contract with the Gávea club until 2012 and expressed his satisfaction at continuing to wear the Flamengo jersey. More than that, he thanked the fans for their support, who stood by his side throughout this renewal process.
"I appreciate the support of all the red-and-blacks. The fans I met on the street asked me to stay, and that's really cool. I really developed this connection; the fans have always been very supportive, and now I have to repay that affection on the field. I hope to build an even more beautiful story and that everything works out in the coming years," he said.
In addition to the renewed contract, Maldonado has already recovered from the knee injuries he suffered, and therefore, he will be included in the squad by coach Rogério Lourenço for one match. This Thursday (26.08), the midfielder should, at least, be on the bench in the duel against Atlético Mineiro.
"I'm very happy. From the first conversation I had with Flamengo, my intention was to stay and extend my contract. I really identified with the club and I'm very happy and calmer now. I'm fine, recovered from the injury, and now I'm going to the game to see if I can get back into the game, get back into rhythm and be able to play normally again. The team needs everyone, it's an important moment to get the fans on our side and try to get off to a good start in the Brasileirão," said the midfielder, who was highly praised by the executive director of football, Zico.
"He's a player who not only has technical quality, but also a lot of experience and can help us a lot. Unfortunately, he had some injuries, but he recovered, did a great job, and will be an important player for Flamengo in the second half of the year. We're very happy with his renewal, because besides being a great player, he's a great person and a great professional," he concluded.
