Maldonado hopes to repeat the success of 2009.

The midfielder scored his only goal for Flamengo against Atlético-MG in Minas Gerais last year.

Flamengo's victory over Atlético Mineiro, away from home, in 2009, was fundamental in the team's run to their sixth Brazilian championship. This year, the objective for the team from Gávea is different: to escape the bottom of the table. However, the path to that could begin in the same way: by beating Galo in Minas Gerais.

And no one is better suited to talk about that match than midfielder Maldonado, who scored his only goal in a Flamengo shirt precisely in that game. In a packed Mineirão stadium, against Atlético, who were also fighting for the title, Flamengo won the so-called "six-point game" and definitively entered the race for the championship.

"It was a different game, against a direct rival, but in a different situation. Last year I scored a goal and I hope it happens again. I have good memories of that game, for sure. Now it's a different stadium too, but we're going there thinking about coming back with a victory," he said.

Instead of Mineirão, Flamengo will play at Arena do Jacaré against Atlético, who are also fighting to escape the relegation zone. The game promises to be very balanced and exciting. Maldonado knows this.

"We have to study the game well, Atlético Mineiro is a dangerous team and it's a crucial match for Flamengo. We also have to take advantage of their desperation. I've never played there, but I know Galo well, they have good players, it's a direct confrontation, an important game and it will certainly be complicated," observed the player, who also took the opportunity to praise the works at the Ninho do Urubu training center.

"The training center is looking nice. The entrance is better, and hopefully it will be even better next year," he concluded.
