Flamengo's upcoming training sessions are considered crucial by the group and the coaching staff for the remainder of the season. After all, it's time to work and conduct all kinds of assessments and physical activities to ensure the team is at 100% strength when the Brasileirão's World Cup break ends. Therefore, Chilean Maldonado guarantees that the team will give its all during the offseason, regardless of changes to the coaching staff and roster.
"It's normal for changes like this to happen. Of course, we feel the departure of people who ended up becoming our friends here, but we have to respect the professionals who are arriving, believe in their work and do everything we can to be able to continue what was being done," said the player, who is not experiencing any kind of physical problem in these first few days.
"I'm feeling good. The work at the beginning is very light, just a few assessments, and I'm feeling very good. The team is in good shape, and I believe this offseason will be good for the whole group. We still have a lot of time to work, and I'm sure we'll come back in good shape for the Brazilian Championship," he explained.
Maldonado still doesn't know if he'll stay at Flamengo until the end of the year. His contract only runs until the end of August, and he wants to stay with the club. However, his contract is tied to an agent, so his future is still uncertain. But until then, he promises to dedicate himself to the red-and-black jersey.
"The renewal is being discussed. My contract belongs to my agent and I still don't know exactly what he wants for me. For me, I would stay at Flamengo for a long time, but it doesn't just depend on my will. I'm going to try to renew, at least until December. We'll talk and wait to see how things develop in the coming days," said the Chilean, who also reveals that the group's atmosphere is a big differentiator at Flamengo.
"Our atmosphere has always been and continues to be very good. This group, besides having a lot of quality, is very close-knit. We're betting on the day-to-day work to return and be able to take Flamengo, at least, to the Libertadores next year. In 2009, we were also discredited and we won the title. We have to stay calm, but who knows, maybe we can go far again? We'll work towards that," he concluded.
