Maldonado wants the team to prove its progress on Sunday

Midfielder believes the classic against Vasco is ideal for Fla to continue its good form

Next Sunday, Flamengo and Vasco will play another edition of the so-called Clássico dos Milhões. A duel that promises to be very tight and exciting, stirring the spirits of both young players and more experienced players. This is the case with midfielder Maldonado, who expects a great match at the Engenhão stadium.

According to him, there are no favorites for a duel like this. For the player, one can't talk about standings or recent history when analyzing a classic before the ball rolls.

"The two teams are very equal. Vasco is in a better position, but we're working to catch up. A derby is the same as always: desire, determination, and whoever has the most energy has the advantage. We have a huge responsibility to play good football," said the midfielder, who believes the team has proven it is evolving at the right time.

"We know Vasco's quality, and it's not just a few players. We'll strive to put in a great performance. We're showing our progress day by day, and hopefully that reflects on game day. The team has been improving in recent weeks, and when you believe in the work, everything works out," he noted.

An old acquaintance of Luxemburgo, Maldo praised the coach's work and commented that the set pieces, which the coach worked on extensively this Friday, could be a point in the Gávea team's favor.

"Set pieces are important. You win a game with these types of plays: free kicks, corners... Vanderlei works on this a lot, especially because we have good headers, so it's a good alternative," he added.
