Keep up that invincibility, Mengão!

Flamengo has not lost to Vasco this year and is looking for another victory

Vanderlei Luxemburgo has already proven his luck in the Clássico dos Milhões—he never lost to Vasco as Flamengo's coach. And since the coach says he likes to remember the good times, there's another statistic in favor of the Red-Blacks regarding matches against this opponent: the Gávea team is undefeated against their rival in 2010.

So far, there have been three matches: two in the Campeonato Carioca and one in the Brasileirão. Flamengo won both state championship matches, 1-0 on March 14th and 2-1 on April 11th. In the first round of the Campeonato Brasileiro, they drew 0-0 on August 1st. These numbers are encouraging for Diego Maurício, who will face his rival for the first time in the professional league.

"I hope we can keep it up. We know it's a league in itself, that the games are tough, and that the fans are very happy with victories over Vasco, just like us. It's the kind of result that boosts morale and is good for the team. That's why we'll go out there looking for that from the start," he said.

Defender David, another debutant in the Clássico dos Milhões, also remembers that a victory is important not only in this "separate championship" that the two teams play every year, but also in the Brasileirão table.

"It's a direct confrontation too, because Vasco is just a little ahead of us, so if we win we'll already be close to them and continue climbing the table, which is our objective. We're in the South American zone, but we have to maintain that until the end of the championship, and a win is very important for us in this derby," he added.

Flamengo and Vasco face off this Sunday at 18:30 p.m. at the Engenhão Stadium. With 37 points, Flamengo is in 13th place, four points behind Vasco, who has 41 and is in 11th place. Therefore, this is a direct clash for position, and also for the red-and-black team to continue its unbeaten streak and continue its momentum in pursuit of a spot in the 2011 South American Championship.
