One of the most experienced players in the Flamengo squad, striker Marcelinho Paraíba ensured that Flamengo remains in the Brazilian Championship, even after the 3-2 loss to Cruzeiro. For the number 11, Flamengo has a good chance of qualifying for the Copa Libertadores if they win their next two games, against Goiás and Atlético-PR.

"We know it's not just up to us, but we have to keep working. If we do our part, winning both matches, I'm sure we'll reach our goal. We might not reach the top four this round, but we'll definitely reach the final one. That's why it's important to stay focused, because these will be two very tough matches. Two wins could end the year with a spot in the Copa Libertadores. We have to fight to secure that spot. Now it's time to put our hearts into our boots and not worry about other results. Our focus has to be on ourselves."

Marcelinho believes that Flamengo will have a very tough match against Goiás, on Sunday, at Maracanã.

"Goiás doesn't have many objectives at the end of the season, but they're a very dangerous team. They play well away from home, so we have to be very careful. They're an experienced team with quality players. We know the difficulties we'll face, but I have a lot of confidence in our team. We're training well and we'll do everything we can to win the last match of the year at Maracanã. I'd like to take this opportunity to call on the fans, because they're very important to us."
