As the famous phrase in the world of football goes, "a good team starts with a good goalkeeper." And Marcelo Lomba wants to live up to this adage by wearing Flamengo's colors. If the goalkeeper's performance as a starter in 2010 is anything to go by, he has a good chance of establishing himself as a goalkeeper.

On Wednesday night (July 14.07), Lomba played his third game as a starter for Flamengo this year and, like what happened against Friburguense and Universidad Católica, he didn't concede any goals. The goalkeeper remains undefeated, with a 100% success rate in matches this season. An impressive feat for any player in his position.

"I always go onto the field thinking about not conceding any goals. That's the most important thing. If I don't concede, I know it's already a big step towards victory. Then I just have to hope the forwards do their job like Paulo Sérgio did against Botafogo," said the owner of Flamengo's number 29 shirt, which he made a point of handing over to coach Cantarelli at the end of the match.

Encouraged by the good individual performance and the result achieved by the team, Marcelo praised the spirit demonstrated by his teammates and celebrated the fact that he was not required to perform as much during the game, which proves that the team was superior on the field.

"Botafogo tried a lot of aerial plays, but our defense was strong and managed to clear them. The goalkeeper doesn't need to be there all the time, but he works in the decisive moments. Today I was happy to perform well when it was necessary. But the whole team deserves congratulations. It was a great collective performance and we deserved the victory," he added.
