Marcelo Lomba celebrates his good form as a starter

The goalkeeper has conceded just three goals in seven matches since taking over the position.

Marcelo Lomba took over as Flamengo's starting goalkeeper permanently in the team's Brasileirão debut following the World Cup. He scored the winning goal in the team's 1-0 win over Botafogo. It was a match that already hinted that the number 29 could thrive in the position. And that's exactly what's been happening: in seven games since he started, Marcelo conceded just three goals. A great average, and one the goalkeeper hopes to maintain for the rest of the competition.

Happy with the good performance and even happier after the red-black victory over Ceará, last Saturday (14.08), Lomba celebrated the fact that the red-black defense had improved and dedicated these statistics to the effort made by all his teammates.

"I thank God for everything that's been happening in my life. Thanks to Him, I went another game without conceding a goal. The defensive system has come together, and not just because of me or the defenders, but because of the dedication of all the players. The team is very united and dedicated to defending, and the proof of this is in the numbers: we've only conceded three goals in seven games, which is very difficult," said the goalkeeper.

Lomba also thanked the fans for their support and recognition and took the opportunity to make a request to the fans: keep supporting the team, because Flamengo will fight for the top positions in the Brasileirão.

"Flamengo's fans always make the difference. I like to say that when a team is in harmony with its fans, it is very difficult to beat, because history proves it, and I'm sure that, with the dedication our team is showing, and the support of the Red-Black Nation, we will fight for the seventh title," he added.
