Porto Alegre (RS) - Among Flamengo's recent signings for the Brasileirão in the second half of the year, a pair of Bahia natives are hoping to achieve success like so many other fellow countrymen have achieved wearing the red-and-black jersey. Marquinhos and Val Baiano are only on their first trip as part of a delegation from Clube de Regatas do Flamengo, but they're already making plans for a glorious future with the Gávea team.
Young Marquinhos, just 20 years old, a product of Vitória, is a fast, skillful striker who can also play as a fourth midfielder. In last Thursday's (July 22.07) training match, for example, against Artsul, he played in this role and performed very well, scoring two goals and being one of the standout players of the match.
"I'm very happy for this opportunity. I'm in good physical shape, of course not 100% yet, but it's important to be here with the group and be ready for this game. It will definitely be a difficult match, but Flamengo has a quality squad and if I have the opportunity to play, I'll do my best to help the team," he said.
The second-highest scorer in the last Brasileirão, center forward Val Baiano knows that every moment must be made the most of in this competition. Therefore, even though he is not yet in optimal condition, both physically and technically, he is available to Rogério Lourenço for the duel against Internacional on Sunday (July 25.07).
"We know it's going to be a tough game, and it's important that we're here to help Flamengo. I'm not at my best yet, but I need to get back into the game, little by little, to get back into the swing of things and then give my best. I want to live up to everyone's expectations," he added.
Marquinhos and Val Baiano are expected to start as Rogério Lourenço's options on the bench for the match against Colorado. The likely starting lineup is Marcelo Lomba; Rômulo, Jean, and Ronaldo Angelim; Leonardo Moura, Correa, Willians, Petkovic, and Juan; Vinícius Pacheco and Diego Maurício.
