Marquinhos ready to debut for Flamengo
Attacking midfielder shines in training match, may travel to Porto Alegre and does not hide his excitement
By From the team at Flamengo's official website - inFlamengo's reinforcement for the second half of 2010, the young Marquinhos, 20 years old, will be able to show what he's made of next Sunday (25.07), when the Rubro-Negro will face Internacional, at Beira-Rio. After standing out in the training match against Artsul, last Thursday (22.07), the attacking midfielder should travel with the group to Porto Alegre on the night of this Friday (23.07).
Registered with the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) and physically prepared, the player, who can play both as a playmaker and as a second striker, can't wait to make his debut for Flamengo. But despite the excitement, he says he's calm and thanks God for the opportunity.
"Thank God I've already been released and I'm at the coach's disposal. I'm calm and hope to help the team in this difficult game against Inter. We need to be calm and keep our feet on the ground. I hope to have an opportunity and I'm ready if coach Rogério Lourenço wants to count on me," he said.
The midfielder, who scored twice in the rout over Artsul, believes that the match helped him gain a little more game rhythm on the eve of his possible debut in official matches wearing the Flamengo shirt.
"Training matches are important for us to gain rhythm and improve our physical condition. I was out of action for a while, and now I'm happy to be back in good shape and pleasing the coach. That's important," he added.
And if it depends on Rogério Lourenço, the attacking midfielder will wear the shirt for the first time against Internacional.
"That's the tendency (to count on Marquinhos for the game). He's been working hard and needs to get into the swing of things. It will be important for him," concluded the Flamengo coach.
