Flamengo and Vasco played a lively derby on Saturday night at the Mané Garrincha stadium in Brasília. After the 1-1 draw, coach Maurício Barbieri gave a press conference and spoke about the result that keeps Flamengo in fourth place in the Brazilian Championship.

“We know that a derby is a special game. The numbers show a balance. Regardless of the opponent's condition, we knew it would be a difficult match. They were looking for a long ball game. We were slow to realize that this would be their game. We conceded a goal, and after that we regained our balance in the match. In the second half we came back better. From the moment we were down to ten men, we showed courage to seek the result. Soon after, there was the episode of the Vasco player's injury. I want to express my wish that Bruno Silva recovers soon and returns to his activity. The team sympathizes with him. The game was balanced, but we weren't lucky in the finishing. Every time we play here the fans support us, the pitch is very good. We will always play here with great pleasure because of what the fans do and because we find an excellent pitch,” analyzed the coach.

Barbieri also commented on the choice of Uribe in the starting lineup; this was the striker's third consecutive match leading the Flamengo attack.

“All the forwards work hard and are dedicated. In training, they strive to improve. We try to choose one or another depending on the opponent. We started with Uribe because we felt he would fit better into the game. It's normal for the fans to want results and for the team to play offensively. We have to remain calm; games are decided in the final minutes.”

“After we were down to ten men, we had to recover and steal the ball away from the goal. From then on, we needed speed, not a target man. And that's what we sought with the substitutions. We created chances, Arão himself had an opportunity at the end of the match,” Barbieri concluded.

The Most Beloved returns to the field next Sunday (23), when it faces Atlético-MG, at Maracanã, for the 26th round of the Brazilian Championship.
