On Sunday morning (2), Flamengo lost to Ceará 1-0 in a game valid for the Brazilian Championship. After the game, coach Maurício Barbieri spoke about the result in a press conference at Maracanã.
"The group's feeling is that we were ineffective in getting the result we knew we needed. It's a bad day, a bad result for those who aspire to greater things. There were demands at halftime and at the end of the match. The players' statements reflect the team's thinking. It's a tough, unacceptable defeat. With respect to the opponent, we couldn't lose like this playing at home. Tomorrow we'll reevaluate the team's condition and start thinking about Internacional," said Barbieri.
"It was a bad day; things weren't working in attack. We tried more than one approach. We're constantly striving for improvement, efficiency, and for not only the defense but also the team to constantly improve. We shot but weren't efficient, giving the opponent space to score. We have to find solutions to these problems, to do more than what we're currently doing. We're not satisfied," said the red-and-black coach.
The coach also commented on the nation's reaction in the stands. "It's completely understandable that the fans are unhappy. They did their job, supported us, and packed the Maracanã stadium. We owe them a debt, and we understand the boos. We have to find a solution to keep them on our side. We need to reflect on how we can deliver the results they expect from us and the team itself desires," Maurício added.
Flamengo returns to the field next Wednesday (5), at 21:45 pm, at Beira Rio, when they face Internacional in the Brazilian Championship.
