Mauricio Barbieri regrets draw against Santos
Coach gave a press conference at Vila Belmiro after the match against Santos
By Flamengo Communication - inOn Wednesday night (25), Flamengo drew 1-1 with Santos in another round of the Brazilian Championship. With a goal from Everton Ribeiro in the first half, the Mais Querido returns home with a point in their luggage. After the match, coach Maurício Barbieri spoke to the press at a press conference at Vila Belmiro.
"I believe Diego played a great game in terms of fighting. The team was very combative and determined to get the result. We know that playing here isn't easy, regardless of Santos' position in the table. They're a strong and skilled team. I'll say again that Diego gave his all, but in the end he got tired. I tried to make a tactical change to try and exploit the aerial game late in the match, but I'm very pleased with what he contributed. He's a guy with fundamental leadership skills," analyzed the coach.
"We already imagined Santos would come out strong given the current situation. Gabriel (Barbosa)'s statements confirmed this, that there would be a change in approach. They displayed great intensity and felt it at the end. We controlled the entire second half, but in the end, it was all Flamengo. The match was very open in the first half, with a lot of attacking, transitioning, and counterattacking. This somehow favors Santos, who are young and lean. We tried to adjust for the second half and created good opportunities, but it wasn't to be. It's a draw that should be valued," added Barbieri.
The next red-black challenge will be on Sunday (29), at 16 pm, against Sport. The duel, played at Maracanã, will be valid for the Brasileirão.
