Last Sunday (19), the coach of Flamengo's under-20 football team and silver medalist as number 10 of the Brazilian National Team at the 1984 Los Angeles Games, Gilmar Popoca was one of those honored at the Torch Tour in Manaus. After the departure of Zé Ricardo to command the red-black professional team, the Amazonian, who was in charge of the under-17s, took over the juniors.

Popoca, top scorer in Los Angeles with five goals, was also named the best player of those Games by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The former athlete emerged on Mais Querido in the 1980s and became the Brazilian champion in 1983.
