In the second leg of the Copa do Brasil quarterfinals, Flamengo beat Athletico-PR 2-0 this Wednesday (12), at Arena da Baixada, and is classified for the semifinals of the competition. Erick (own goal) and Gabi scored the goals in the great red-black victory.

The game
The match began with both teams closely studying each other and with few early chances. Flamengo's first good opportunity came in the 10th minute. Ayrton Lucas received the ball from Gabigol, advanced down the left, and attempted a shot from a tight angle. The ball hit the post and went wide.

Needing a win, Athletico looked to attack and prowled the red-and-black box, creating a few opportunities. Atlético Mineiro was solid in defense and gave the Paraná team little space.

And Mengão opened the scoring in the 44th minute of the first half! Arrascaeta took a corner kick into the box, and Bento punched it away. On the rebound, Thiago Maia crossed again into the box, Arrasca headed it into the middle, and Erick sent it into his own net. The Rio de Janeiro Red-Blacks went into halftime with a 1-0 lead.

In the second half, Athletico continued to push forward, but Flamengo remained tight on defense. In the 9th minute, Victor Hugo attempted a long-range shot, but it went wide. Gabi then received a good pass from Arrascaeta, dribbled past the goalkeeper, and sent the ball home. After a VAR review, the referee ruled the striker offside.

In the 20th minute, Gerson passed to Gabi, who fired a dangerous shot. Athletico tried to give it their last push, but Mengão maintained control and managed to fend off the pressure. In the final minute of regulation time, Thiago Heleno and Gerson were sent off after shoving each other.

In stoppage time, Mengão extended their lead and sealed the victory. David Luiz crossed into the box, Léo Pereira headed it in, and Gabigol, always decisive, slotted it under the goalkeeper's legs: 2-0.

With the result, Mais Querido secured a place in the semifinals of the Copa do Brasil and will face Grêmio.

Next appointment
Rubro-Negro returns to the field next Sunday (16) for the classic against Fluminense, at 16 pm, at Maracanã, for the 15th round of the Brasileirão.
