In the complement of the 9th round of Carioca, Flamengo had a good performance and beat Boavista 4-0 on Tuesday night (20), at Maracanã. Luiz Araújo, Pedro and Arrascaeta (2) scored for the party of the Red-Black Nation.
With the result, Mengão retook the lead in the championship with 21 points. The match also marked the debut of left-back Matías Viña with the Manto Sagrado.
The game
Flamengo started the match at full speed, and within just ten seconds, they nearly opened the scoring. Luiz Araújo received the ball on the left side of the box and fired a cross-shot. The ball sailed just wide of the post. Pressing from the first minute, the red-and-black team occupied the entire attacking field and suffocated Boavista.
Then, in the eighth minute, the score was opened at the Maracanã! The ball fell to Luiz Araújo on the right side and the striker shot low into the goalkeeper's left corner to score Mengão's first goal: 1-0.
Soon after, in the 12th minute, Mais Querido extended their lead quite naturally. Cebolinha made an individual play on the left and crossed perfectly for Pedro to score with a header: 2-0.

The Red-Blacks didn't sit back and continued to pressure the Saquarema team, creating several opportunities. One of them came from De La Cruz, who delivered a beautiful pass to Pedro in the box. The striker controlled the ball with his chest and sent it over the crossbar.
Throughout the first half, Flamengo continued exchanging passes in attack. In the 38th minute, David Luiz provided a good pass to Arrascaeta inside the box, who crossed first time for Pedro to head over the goal. A minute later, Luiz Araújo received the ball at the edge of the box, made an individual run, and shot. The ball hit the post.
With a strong command of the action, Mengão went into halftime with a two-goal lead and could have scored more with the numerous chances created. A very good first half for the red-and-black team, which was very objective.
The Mais Querido returned for the second half as they had ended the first: suffocating Boavista in their own half. In the 4th minute, Pedro was on top of his game and intercepted a ball in midfield, advanced with it, and was blocked as he took a shot, which was deflected for a corner.
In the 12th minute, Arrascaeta made an individual run down the right, passing three Boavista players, and the ball fell to De La Cruz, who shot, but it bounced off the defense. Two minutes later, Cebolinha burst into the box and attempted a shot, but the ball deflected off Sheldon's hand. The referee consulted VAR and awarded a penalty. Pedro stepped up to take the shot, but the goalkeeper jumped in the right corner and saved.
Mengão's third goal came in the 25th minute with a stunning goal! Arrascaeta drove the ball into the box, dribbled past the defense, and shot. The shot was blocked, but the Uruguayan caught the rebound with a half-hearted effort and sent it into the top corner: 3-0.
After the third goal, coach Tite gave Uruguayan Matías Viña a debut, replacing Ayrton Lucas. In the final minutes, the red-and-black team added a fourth. De La Cruz found Arrascaeta inside the box, the Uruguayan slotted home and slotted the ball into the goalkeeper's corner to seal the red-and-black rout at the Maracanã.
