The game
Within a minute of the game, Palmeiras opened the scoring with Raphael Veiga: 1-0. Gradually, Flamengo put the ball on the ground and tried to play out from the back with short passes in Palmeiras' midfield. In the 19th minute, Flamengo created their first dangerous chance. Bruno Henrique entered the area on the right side, backheeled the ball to Isla, who rolled it to Arrascaeta in the box. The Uruguayan shot first time and the ball went very close to the crossbar.
Then, at 22 minutes, Flamengo leveled the score. Arrascaeta found Filipe Luís inside the area, the full-back made a beautiful dribble past Gustavo Gomez and shot against the post. On the rebound, Gabigol, well positioned, simply pushed the ball into the back of the net: 1-1.
At 44 minutes, Gabigol made an individual play and passed to Bruno Henrique. The striker was one-on-one with Weverton, who saved with his fingertips. Immediately afterwards, Flamengo took the lead! Arrascaeta received the ball on the left, cut inside, beat his marker and placed a shot into the right corner of the goal, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance. A fantastic goal! Flamengo went into halftime with a 2-1 lead.
Returning for the second half, the Flamengo team continued to value possession of the ball and tried to find spaces in the Palmeiras defense. At 10', Arão passed to Gabigol at the edge of the area, who shot very close to the goal. At 28', Palmeiras equalized with Raphael Veiga, from a penalty kick: 2-2.
In the 39th minute, Vitinho cut inside the area, beat his marker, and shot powerfully. Weverton parried the shot, and the ball still hit the post. The match ended in a draw in regulation time and went to penalties.
