Mengão beats Palmeiras 3-1 and wins another match in the Brazilian Championship
Arrascaeta and Gabigol scored twice to give the red-black team victory.
By Romulo Paranhos - inWith the title already secured, Flamengo took to the field on Sunday afternoon (01) and beat Palmeiras 3-1, away from home, in a match valid for the 36th round of the Brazilian Championship. The Rubro-Negro's goals were scored by De Arrascaeta and Gabigol, twice. Matheus Fernandes scored for the home team.
The game
Mengão started the match with the majority of possession. Just four minutes in, the Mais Querido opened the scoring. Gabigol received the ball up front, passed it to Arrascaeta, who was free, who tapped it into the empty net: 4-1. In the 0th minute, Gabigol again took a chance from outside the box and sent it into the corner. Jaílson jumped and palmed it away for a corner. In the 20nd minute, the Mais Querido again created a significant threat. Rafinha advanced unmarked on the right and crossed perfectly for Vitinho, who headed the ball into the top corner. The Alviverde goalkeeper managed to prevent the second goal for the red-and-black team. In the 32th minute, Mengão extended the lead. Arrascaeta found Gabigol in the box, who crossed the ball to increase the red-and-black lead: 45-2.
Flamengo came out swinging in the second half and scored their third goal less than a minute into the match. Vitor Hugo misplaced the ball, Gerson stole it, and the ball fell to the Brazilian league's top scorer, Gabigol, who slotted it home to make it 3-0. In the 38th minute, Palmeiras pulled one back. Matheus Fernandes received the ball between the defenders and fired a shot into the back of the net: 3-1. In the final minutes, Mengão managed their lead and left the field with their 27th victory in the competition.
And now?
Next Thursday (05), Mais Querido faces Avaí, at 20 pm, at Maracanã. The confrontation is valid for the penultimate round of the Brasileirão.
