Rio de Janeiro is red and black! This Sunday, Mengão drew 0-0 with Fluminense and won the Campeonato Carioca for the 39th time in its history. Mengão was hoping for a draw, having won the first leg 2-1. Now, the focus is on the Brasileirão. The Rio champions face Internacional on March 29th at Maraca in the first round.

Game
The first half belonged to Flamengo. The red-and-blacks' best chance came from Ecuadorian striker Plata. In the 24th minute, he stole the ball from Fábio and shot, but the goalkeeper recovered and performed a miracle, preventing Mengo's goal. Plata still had one more chance, but defender Thiago Silva saved Fluminense. Then, another incredible chance was wasted. Arrasca played in Luiz Araújo, who shot past Fábio. The ball went just wide of the goal.

The second half was more evenly balanced. Fluminense, needing a result, came out a bit more. But they didn't threaten Flamengo. Their only chance of the match was a Cano header that went wide. Flamengo, dominant, created plenty of chances again. And late in the match, two goals were disallowed by VAR. In the first, Juninho beat the defender and passed to Plata, who finished beautifully to score. The referee called a foul on Juninho. Later, Juninho set up Michael to score. VAR ruled Juninho offside.
