Mengão won again! With a strong performance, especially in the second half, the "Mais Querido" defeated Bahia 3-1 in a comeback in the 32nd round of the Brazilian Championship. Reinier, Bruno Henrique, and Gabigol scored the red-and-black goals.

The game

The first half wasn't the best for Mengão. Despite creating good chances, the Mais Querido fell behind and went into the break trailing 1-0. 

In the second half, things were different. Reinier came on for Vitinho and changed the game. In the 8th minute, the youngster received a cross from Gabigol and tied the game with a header: 1-1. In the 26th minute, the always decisive Bruno Henrique turned the match for Mengão after a beautiful attacking move by the red-and-blacks: 2-1. And the final blow came from Gabigol. In the 42nd minute, Willian Arão hit the post with a free kick. The striker tapped the rebound into the net: 3-1 and a national celebration at the Maracanã.

Gabigol reached 37 goals in 2019, becoming Mengão's top scorer in a single season this century. He surpassed Hernane Brocador, who had 36 goals in 2013. Gabriel also tied Zico as Mengão's top scorer in a single Brazilian Championship season, with 21 goals.

Mengão returns to the field on Wednesday to face Vasco, at Maraca, in the Brazilian Championship.
