Mengão beat Fortaleza 2-1 at Maracanã

Gabigol scored the winning goal for Rubro-Negro in the 41st minute of the second half

In a game valid for the eighth round of the Brazilian Championship, Flamengo beat Fortaleza 2-1 this Saturday (05), at Maracanã. The goals of Mais Querido were scored by Everton Ribeiro and Gabigol, at 41 minutes of the second half. With the result, Mengão achieved its third consecutive victory in the competition.

O JOGO
Flamengo started the match attacking Fortaleza and, just five minutes in, opened the scoring with a stunning goal from Everton Ribeiro. The number 7 crossed with his outside of the foot and found Pedro in the box, who turned and shot. Felipe Alves rebounded, Everton collected the rebound, chipped the ball over the goalkeeper, and headed it in: 1-0.

In the 13th minute, Fortaleza equalized with a penalty through Juninho. In the 18th minute, Oswaldo was released down the left, won the duel with Isla, and shot. The ball hit the post. Flamengo responded with Rodrigo Caio's dangerous header. In the 29th minute, Michael received the ball on the left, took it to the middle, and attempted a shot from outside the box. Felipe Alves palmed it away for a corner.

The Mais Querido continued to pressure the opponent and created numerous attacking opportunities. In the 41st minute, Michael found Pedro in the box; the center forward turned first, and the ball went close. The first half ended all square: 1-1.

In the second half, Flamengo remained in the attacking half, exchanging passes to find a gap in Fortaleza's tight defense. In the 25th minute, Michael played a one-two with Arrascaeta, took it inside, and fired a powerful shot that was dangerous.

After much persistence, Mengão scored their second goal in the 41st minute. Everton Ribeiro broke through the middle and passed to Matheuzinho on the right. The full-back crossed first time, and Gabigol, unmarked, slotted it into the corner to seal the 2-1 victory for the red-and-blacks.

Rubro-Negro returns to the field next Wednesday (09) to play the Rio derby against Fluminense, at 21:30 pm, at Maracanã.
