In the sixth round of the Brazilian Championship, Flamengo beat Santos 1-0 on Sunday afternoon (30), at Vila Belmiro. The Rubro-Negro's goal was scored by Gabigol in the first half's stoppage time.

The match started evenly, with both teams vying for possession. In the 6th minute, Mengão created a threat for the first time. Gabigol controlled the ball on the left, entered the box, and fired a low shot. Michael fired a first-time shot, but the ball went just wide. In the 9th minute, Santos managed to score through Raniel, but VAR intervened and ruled for offside. In the following play, Santos scored again, but VAR again ruled for offside.
In the 28th minute, Michael made a good run down the right and crossed into the box. Filipe Luís headed the ball, but the goalkeeper made the save. Thiago Maia and Arrascaeta were playing well, setting the pace in the Santos midfield. In the 34th minute, Diego Alves made two fine saves in a row, preventing Santos from opening the scoring.
In the 41st minute, Mengão created a dangerous situation. Bruno Henrique burst down the left and crossed for Michael. The striker struck first time, but João Paulo made a great save. In stoppage time, Mengão opened the scoring. Gabigol stole the ball in the defensive half and passed to Michael on the right, who fired into the penalty area and returned the ball to the number 9 who tapped it into the net: 1-0.
Flamengo started the second half looking to extend their lead. In the 2nd minute, Michael received the ball on the right and crossed into the box. Gabigol slotted it home, forcing the goalkeeper to make a good save. In the 17th minute, Santou threatened Diego Alves' goal. Raniel received the ball at the edge of the box and shot hard. The number 1 jumped to the right corner and made a great save. In the 23rd minute, Isla was released on the right and crossed. Gabigol flicked it on with his left foot, and the ball went just wide. From the 30th minute onward, Santou began to manage their lead, maintaining possession in the attacking half to secure the red-and-black victory: 1-0.
