Gávea boys receive praise for good game

Surprises from Rogério Lourenço, Camacho and Diego Maurício suffered two penalties against Prudente

When Flamengo took the field, fans at the Maracanã stadium and those watching the match against Grêmio Prudente on TV were surprised by the selection of two youngsters: Camacho, in the starting lineup, and Diego Maurício, on the bench. And fate would have it that they were key figures in the match. Both suffered penalties, converted by forward Vagner Love.

Coach of the red-black youth team and the Brazilian national team, Rogério Lourenço was happy with the 'bets' and showed that he knows the boys well, classified by him as diamonds in the rough.

"They are Gávea products and Flamengo's treasure. I've known them both since 2006 and know they both have great potential. Obviously, they're not ready-made players, but they can perform well and help Flamengo. They have a lot of room for growth; they're diamonds in the rough, and they're not the solution to anything," Rogério stated.

After conceding the penalty that resulted in Flamengo's final goal of the match (3-1), Diego Maurício sealed his successful debut for the red-and-blacks and couldn't hide his happiness. He also expressed his gratitude to coach Rogério Lourenço.

"This game was wonderful for me. I can't thank Professor Rogério enough for the opportunity he gave me. In fact, he's been a huge supporter of mine ever since I was playing for Flamengo's youth team. He came and talked to me. He told me I had potential and I had to show it. Since then, I've considered him like a father. We talk a lot and talk about everything. We always speak frankly with each other. I'm sure he treats me like a son too," concluded Diego Maurício.
