The Copa Santander Libertadores has been a top priority for Flamengo this season, and as such, the players haven't let the competition slip away for even a second. Shortly after their Brasileirão debut, the group gathered in the locker room to discuss the importance of Wednesday's quarterfinal match against Universidad de Chile at the Maracanã stadium.
Defender David revealed that the group is very motivated in pursuit of this achievement and asked for the fans' support in the match against "La U".
"We just talked about it. We have to rest and work well on Monday and Tuesday, because Wednesday is a decisive moment here at Maracanã. We hope the fans will be there to play alongside us, to be the 12th player and I'm sure we'll get an advantage for the game there in Chile," he said.
Coach Rogério Lourenço, in turn, made a point of praising the team's heroic qualification against Corinthians and expressed confidence that the players rested in the Brazilian Championship debut will be able to perform well next Wednesday.
"There wasn't a round of 16 like Flamengo and Corinthians. Even without having seen some of those matches, I'm sure of that. There was a physical and emotional toll, especially, so we thought it best for the players to rest. The relationship is one of trust between them and the staff, and it has to be that way. Those who were supposed to train today trained, and that's fine," noted Rogério, who has yet to decide on the team that will face the Chileans.
