Muricy expects Cirino to start with Mancuello's arrival

Coach analyzes Flamengo's victory over Atlético-MG and praises the team's greater compactness in the second half

After Flamengo's 2-0 victory over Atlético-MG, this Wednesday (27), at Mineirão, the red-black coach Muricy Ramalho analyzed the duel in the post-match press conference. For the coach, the team grew in the second half and found greater compactness, a characteristic sought with persistence in training.

Muricy also celebrated the end of Guerrero's goal drought and stated that he intends to include Marcelo Cirino in the starting lineup once the number 7 improves his fitness. The coach is also concerned about Mancuello's inclusion in the team, a formation he considers ideal.

Check out the main excerpts from the press conference:

Match analysis
The most interesting thing is that we're adjusting the team. We're facing one of the best teams in the country, which is a huge advantage they have over us. We're gradually adjusting the team, building momentum. In the friendlies, we played two reasonable halves. The physical aspect is normal at the beginning of the year; people lack patience, but we on the coaching staff are doing our best. Today, the team held up well in the first half and in the second, they came out on top, improving their passing, which is something we've been doing too poorly on. We're on the right track, but it's too early to get excited.

Marcelo Cirino
We're in a phase of preparing the team, of creating opportunities. Gabriel marks better, plays well on the right flank. Marcelo Cirino isn't yet physically ready to start; he's more about speed. It will be very important when we have a midfielder. With Mancuello, we can bring in Cirino. Little by little, we're improving the team.

Guerrero
What we're happy about, and what we've been talking about, is that he hasn't given up; he's fighting. He didn't score in other games, but it was very hot in Recife, and he fought hard. He's not a free-scoring guy. A center forward thrives on goals; there's no point. His fuel is goals. We're very happy, and we hope that with this confidence, he scores many more goals.

Defensive sector
When we talk about defense, we mean the whole team. Sometimes we only talk about the defense, and when goals happen, it's the defense that's bad. It's not the defense that defends poorly, it's the team. Football today has been like this since the beginning. But we're just getting started. In the first half, we gave Atlético-MG some space; the lines need to stay closer together. We're alternating the way we push forward; the players are understanding, and we're improving.

Start of season
We can't put too much pressure on the players at the beginning of the season. We can't chase Atlético at Mineirão, or we'll lose the game. We had to shorten the pitch, push the lines, so they wouldn't break through so easily. By marking further up, we have a better chance of reaching the opponent's goal.
