Looking forward to the debut of the new attacking duo

Silas defends Val Baiano and says he will analyze Deivid and Diogo's progress until Sunday

With 14 goals in 18 games, Flamengo has scored the fewest goals against opponents in the current Brazilian Championship. Flamengo knows this number needs to change soon if they want to continue their pursuit of success in the competition. Therefore, expectations are high for the debut of the new attacking duo, Diogo and Deivid, who are likely to play as early as Sunday (September 05.09) against Santos.

Before considering this, however, the newly hired Flamengo coach, Silas, is urging calm with the forwards currently playing for Flamengo. Val Baiano, for example, arrived at Flamengo with the accolades of scoring 18 goals last season for Barueri in the Brasileirão. At Gávea, however, he hasn't yet scored and is feeling the pressure from the fans.

"Val Baiano scored 18 goals last year; he hasn't forgotten how to score. At Flamengo, things are different. When you don't score, you end up having a bigger impact. It's about working hard and knowing that there's a long way to go. At Flamengo, everything carries more weight," he said.

Despite trusting Val and Diego Maurício having a good game against Cruzeiro, Silas is hoping to have the new attacking duo of Deivid and Diogo available.

"Diogo is recovering and Deivid could make his debut. We need to bring the players together, work hard, and know that we have a long way to go to turn things around. We'll go to Rio and check on both of their conditions and analyze their progress until Sunday," he added.
